Wine vinegar is made using a culture commonly known as a vinegar mother.

This culture, which resembles a jellyfish, can turn wine into the finest wine vinegar. Wine vinegar is often associated with slightly more refined cooking, but it can also add an extra kick to everyday meals. It can be used, for example, in salads, to marinate meat and as a flavour enhancer in sauces.

The vinegar mother is placed in the jar with tap, and if you then remember to think of your vinegar mother from time to time when you have a glass of red or white wine yourself, you can keep it alive for many years.

In France, it is customary for a mother to give her daughter a vinegar mother when she marries.

A vinegar mother likes best of all to ‘live’ in a ceramic wine vinegar crock. However, making a ceramic wine vinegar crock takes a lot of time and energy, so they are quite expensive. In addition, our potter in Provence has retired and it is no longer possible to get more of the beautiful crocks she made. A vinegar mother will also thrive in other ‘homes’, though, as long as it is not exposed to direct sunlight. That is why we are now launching this glass solution with a fabric cover that keeps direct sunlight off the vinegar mother.

The jar/container holds 8.0 litres, but thanks to its slim design it doesn't take up much space on the worktop or wherever you keep it. The vinegar mother thrives equally well in the jar whether it contains a lot or a little wine/wine vinegar.

The fabric cover is attached with cotton tape and can easily be removed when it needs washing. Wash at 40-60 degrees. Red wine or red wine vinegar stains can be removed with glycerine, among other things.

This decorative jar/container made of thick glass with a tap, in a practical size, can also be used for brewing kombucha and for serving lemonade, apple juice, cordial and other drinks.
